Al Ain and Al Jazira played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in matchweek eight of the ADNOC Pro League, leaving both sides to share the points.
Matias Palacios gave Al Ain the lead in the 20th minute with a stunning strike from the edge of the penalty area, leaving Ali Khaseif rooted as the ball thundered into the back of the net.
Al Jazira responded with high pressing, and their efforts paid off in the 37th minute. Bruno De Oliveira produced a moment of individual brilliance, running onto a perfectly timed through ball from Mamadou Coulibaly that sliced through Al Ain’s defence.
De Oliveira calmly fired a low drive into the bottom corner, leaving goalkeeper Khalid Eisa with no chance and restoring parity.
The first half was also defined by crucial interventions from both VAR and Eisa, who denied Al Jazira opportunities that could have changed the course of the match.
Al Jazira earned a penalty in stoppage time after a foul on defender Rami Rabieea, but Eisa once again rose to the occasion, saving Ibrahim Adel’s spot-kick.
Al Jazira almost capitalised immediately after the missed penalty when Simon Banza headed the ball into the net, but the goal was ruled out for a foul on Banza.
Al Ain were forced into a goalkeeper change in the second half due to an injury to Eisa, with Hassan Sani Mohamed stepping in between the posts.
The remainder of the match was cagey, with few clear chances, although a VAR consultation late in the game prevented Al Jazira from adding a second goal five minutes before full-time.
The draw means Al Ain remain at the top of the table with 20 points, while Al Jazira sit fifth with 15 points.
The match highlighted the intensity and fine margins that define the ADNOC Pro League, leaving both teams reflecting on opportunities missed and points gained.
