Al Jazira FC signs Brazilian winger Joao Victor from VfL Wolfsburg
Abu Dhabi – August 18, 202: Al Al Jazira FC announces the signing of Joao Victor, who will join the first team on a two-year contract coming from the Bundesliga’s VfL Wolfsburg. Victor passed all medicals before putting pen to paper on the contracts that bind him to the Pride of Abu Dhabi before joining his new teammates in training, with a view to the first ADNOC Pro League match at the weekend.
Born in the Brazilian town of San Jose in 1994, his first step in football was Brazil’s prestigious Sao Paolo club, while his first European club was Austria’s Kapfenberger SV. Later on, he impressed with LASK Linz to earn himself a transfer to the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg in 2019, where he played 53 matches in the league, 6 in the DFB-Pokal, and 7 UEFA Europa League games.
Al Jazira Group’s CEO Ali Youssef Al-Hammadi spoke of his delight at the signing of Joao Victor: “Signing a skilled Brazilian such as Victor shows our commitment towards the directions of the club leadership to give everything to ensure all sporting teams have the continuity and success. We believe the player, who has exceptional skills and teamwork abilities, will add a lot to the team as we look to perform to the best of our abilities at home and abroad this season. We are sure that he will get the support he needs from his teammates and staff alike, in order to give his best in the Pride of Abu Dhabi’s colours.”
On the other hand, Victor spoke of his happiness at joining Al Jazira: “I am very happy to join one of the United Arab Emirates’ biggest clubs, and that the club that won the league title last season chose me to be part of the football project that is taking place right now. I am looking forward to meeting my new teammates and joining them in training and fight next to them in matches. The football style of Al Jazira suits me a lot, and the information I’ve gathered on the club, and the league was extremely positive. I vow to give every ounce of effort I have in training and in matches to prove that I am worthy of the faith put in me by the management, coach, and fans.”
The club’s sporting director Mads Davidsen also added to the sense of positivity, expecting that Victor would enjoy success at the club with his skills and technical ability: “We have followed Joao for quite a while, and have assessed him closely before choosing to add him to the squad. He’s an accomplished player who is versatile across the front line aside from his natural position as a winger. His individual ability will help him shine, and will add to the teamwork demanded by coach Marcel Keizer. The dressing room’s family-like atmosphere will help him acclimatize and fit in quickly with the players in order to perform well in both training and matches. Coming as 27-years old we also get a player in the peak of his career and his best football years will therefore be with Al Jazira”.
